MICHAEL J. WEILAND received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in economics in 1974 from the University of California at Los Angeles. Before entering law school, he spent several years working in international construction, including managing a procurement and subcontracts administration office in Dharan, Saudi Arabia. Mr. Weiland received his juris doctorate degree, with honors, in 1980 from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. Mr. Weiland is a founding partner of Weiland, Golden, Smiley, Wang Ekvall & Strok, LLP, and was previously with the law firms of Buchalter, Nemer, Fields & Younger; Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton; and McKenna, Conner & Cuneo.

Mr. Weiland served on the faculty of the University of Southern California Law School, teaching real property law and legal research and writing for the University's Paralegal Studies Program. He is actively involved in various professional associations including the Building Industry Association of Southern California and the California Bankruptcy Forum.

Mr. Weiland concentrates his practice in the areas of real estate development and leasing, general business and corporate matters, and complex business reorganizations. He frequently represents institutional portfolio asset managers in the acquisition, restructuring and disposition of real property secured loans and real property assets.
